PUMO CNC Machine Spindle - Application Scheme for Vertical/Horizontal Machining Centers and Five Axis Machine Tools
In vertical machining centers (VMC) and horizontal machining centers (HMC), the PUMO spindle serves as the main motion bearing for tool rotation, supporting processes such as milling, drilling, reaming, reaming, threading, countersunking, and 3D surface finishing. The typical configuration is BT40 or BT50 (HMC commonly uses CAT or HSK), with direct drive or electric spindle form. Taking the processing of mold steel/alloy steel parts as an example: For rough milling, a large diameter face milling cutter is used with low speed (2000-3500rpm) and high feed to large cutting depth. The main spindle tool is required to have sufficient low-speed constant torque (PUMO 15kW direct spindle @ 600rpm can output>200N · m); Precision machining adopts ball end milling cutters with high speed (8000-12000rpm) and small step pitch, requiring small spindle vibration, small nose end jumping, and controllable thermal drift (PUMO electric spindle with closed-loop water cooling Δ T<10 ℃, Z-direction thermal extension<5 μ m/4h).
For high-speed cutting (HSM) of aviation aluminum alloy structural components, PUMO provides HSK-A63 electric spindle with a power of 7.5-18.5kW and oil air lubrication hybrid ceramic bearings, which can achieve high removal rate (Material Removal Rate>1000cm ³/min) while maintaining thin-walled parts without deformation - high acceleration and deceleration capability (0 → 24000rpm<2s) to adapt to NURBS curved paths with dense small line segments, reducing corner over cutting and tool marks. By combining with linear motors or high response servo feed axes, True-5-axis simultaneous contouring accuracy can be achieved.
Horizontal machining centers are often equipped with BT50 or large-sized HSK-A100 spindles, which require higher torque (above 300N · m level) and center water outlet (through spindle cooler, 20-70bar) function. PUMO can achieve spindle internal cooling channel through built-in rotary joints, flush iron chips and improve deep hole drilling chip removal ability. In terms of compatibility with Automatic Tool Change (ATC), the PUMO spindle pulling mechanism is designed according to the MAS403/BT or ISO7388/DIN69871 standards, which perfectly matches the dimensions of common tool libraries (bucket hat/disc/chain) and mechanical arm grasping positions. The loosening stroke, cutting cylinder force, and clamping force detection signals all meet the ATC timing requirements of mainstream CNC systems.
HSK-E40/E50 or Big Plus end face double contact taper shank is used in the five axis linkage machining center to improve rigidity and repeat positioning accuracy. The PUMO spindle front end face contacts the taper hole at the same time to ensure Z-direction and radial rigidity, reducing overhang deformation. For A/C or B/C swing head five axis machines, the PUMO electric spindle is often directly integrated into the swing head frame, requiring a compact outer diameter, light weight, and centralized cable/water/air outlet - PUMO provides a flat flange and rear outlet version to meet this requirement. All machining center spindles can be equipped with spindle load display (monitored by driver torque), tool breakage detection (monitoring current/power mutations), and spindle center water outlet filter alarm, comprehensively improving the reliability of automated production line machining.
